Expert Extractions With a Gentle Touch

At Oconee Dental Associates, we take a conservative approach. Our goal is to help you keep your natural teeth. However, sometimes, because of an infection, severe decay, impaction, crowding or trauma, that’s not possible and an extraction is necessary. We know the thought of a tooth extraction can be intimidating, but our dentists are highly trained and skilled and will ensure the procedure is safe, effective and painless.

Benefits of
Tooth Extractions

Eliminates Pain

A decayed, damaged or infected tooth can be extremely painful. Extracting it will stop the discomfort.

Prevents Infection

Removing a severely decayed or infected tooth will prevent the infection from spreading and causing more damage.

Allows for Tooth Replacement

Once a tooth has been extracted, you’ll be able to replace it with a dental implant or bridge.

What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction

When performing a tooth extraction in West Union, SC, we never rush to a diagnosis. Instead, our team uses modern diagnostic technology to get a clear picture of your dental health before determining the best approach. We’ll walk you through our findings and treatment recommendations so you feel confident about your care.

If an extraction is necessary, the dentist will numb the area with local anesthesia. If you’re anxious, we can also discuss sedation options. Once you’re numb, the doctor will use a special tool to widen the socket and rock the tooth to ease it out. Certain teeth might have to be cut into sections and removed one piece at a time. When the procedure is complete, the dentist may use small sutures to close the extraction site.
